B2R Stars
The thing about this school is that you can be really into the idea of having a band. You can wake up one morning and say, ‘Oh I want to join a band and make it happen’.
The teachers are awesome, they’re really cool.
The band is like a sports team. I didn’t know any of these kids before and now they are my friends.
When you play in a band you come closer to the other people in the band. If you happen to not know someone at first, they could become your best friend by the end of the year
When I was a kid I took lessons and learned to play okay, but these kids not only learn to play, they are learning how music works, and they even write and arrange their own material.
The fact that kids see results fast and can play music they’re all listening to on their iPods makes a big difference.
Practicing by yourself at home you feel lonely. But it helps a lot because you practice your own parts and then you come together as a band and you can really play.
When you play in a band, you bond with people.
There aren’t a lot of after school activities where boys and girls feel like they’re on a level playing field. I love the way my daughter works with her band because she knows she is an important part of the team.
When you play really well at practice, you feel good about yourself.
The kids practice more and take it seriously because they feel they owe it to the ‘team’.
Playing in public is fun because a lot of people are watching you, you feel good about yourself when you finish a song, and it makes other people know who you are.
Her lesson and band practice are the highlights of my daughter’s week. And the amazing thing is that the kids get together every weekend and have their own rehearsal.
The teachers are great. They’re nice and they teach you at the same time. Most of them are funny and they are cool.
B2R Music student
It’s a lot of fun and you learn a lot.
- individual instruction is enhanced and students are motivated by playing with others in a band.
- like sports, a band builds teamwork, develops social skills, fosters self-esteem, promotes peer recognition and leads to lasting friendships.
- everyone learns faster playing music they like, whether it's rock or Bach. And the technical foundation is the same.
- students are motivated to learn when they see early results and have an exciting, achievable goal.
- introducing toddlers and very young children to music, rhythm and motion supports cognitive development, learning and motor skills.
