Studio 100: Basics Of Digital Recording
Cover your basics.
Compressed version of studio 101. Students work with a professional engineer to learn essential recording techniques and studio components. Students build a foundation of recording skills and gain insight to home-based application and project studios. This class is perfect for those interested in hands on training using the latest in digital technology.
Studio 101: Digital Recording With Protools®
Learn all the steps of the recording process, from initial setup to final mix-down.
Students gain a general overview of tracking in a live room using the proper microphones for specific sonic goals, plus hands-on training in the manipulation of protools® functions, features and hot keys. Students work in production teams to track, edit, apply dynamic controls and mix-down music recorded by students in b2r studio sessions.
Studio 102: Advanced Studio Techniques & Live Sound Recording
Enhance your skills and make dramatic improvement in your recordings.
Students build on the fundamental concepts and techniques of studio101. Working in production teams, students enhance their knowledge of protools® and the control24® digital mixing console, applying mixdown automation and advanced plug-ins to recorded instrumentals and vocal arrangements. Completion of studio 101 course or equivalent experience is required. Upon completion of studio 102, selective internships may be available at nightclub 9:30 in Washington, DC.

Learn to record a band and create original music.
Learn the basics of digital recording and begin to create your own signature sound in our state-of-the-art recording studio. Students gain hands-on training by working with protools® on a 64 track mixing console and individual mbox 2® workstations. The curriculum includes: signal flow, microphone placement, basic editing functions, mixing sound, applying dynamic control and tracking and recording live bands or sequencing instrumentals.
Young DJ’S
Learn the basics of being a DJ.
As in the dj workshop, students gain hands-on training, learn beat matching using tempo, tone, and timing. Phrasing, blending instrumentals/ vocals, and drop mixing are explored so that students may move from one song to another seamlessly. Students also learn scratching and cutting music, as made popular in the art of hip hop. This is a vinylbased course. Musical background is helpful but not required.
